House LGBT Caucus Welcomes Shawn Gaylord as New Executive Director

Washington D.C. – The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus this week welcomed Shawn Gaylord as its new Executive Director. Gaylord brings to this role a proven track record of advocacy on the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, at home and abroad.

As Executive Director, Gaylord will help steer the Caucus’ work promoting LGBT equality, supporting members of Congress, and coordinating outreach to outside organizations.

Gaylord has been engaged in a variety of advocacy roles in Washington, D.C., having worked for nine years with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, including as Director of Public Policy. More recently, he created and led the International LGBT Campaign at Human Rights First.

“Shawn’s experience as an advocate defending LGBT rights and raising awareness of these issues with elected officials will be an invaluable asset to the Equality Caucus,” said LGBT Equality Caucus Co-Chair Rep. David Cicilline (RI-01). “We’re lucky to have him and I am looking forward to working together to help the Caucus continue to thrive and advance LGBT rights here in the United States and abroad.”

“I am excited to be stepping into this role at such an important moment,” said Shawn Gaylord. "The expanded leadership of the Equality Caucus and the momentum behind important legislation such as The Equality Act make this an exciting time to be engaged in this work.”
