FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

House LGBT Caucus Denounces President Trump’s Doubling Down on Trans Military Ban

Washington, D.C. -- The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump deciding to implement his previously announced ban on transgender people serving in the United States military.

“The President’s shameful decision to stand by this unconstitutional ban shows he is willing to play politics at the direct expense of our military,” said LGBT Equality Caucus Executive Director Roddy Flynn.  "This ban is inconsistent with the advice of leaders in the military, the results of independent studies, and basic American values of decency and fairness.”

“Transgender people serve honorably in our military to protect our freedom.  Our service members are patriots and deserve the thanks of a grateful nation.  They deserve a Commander-in-Chief that respects their sacrifice, not one that denigrates it to advance a narrow-minded political agenda.”

Please contact Roddy Flynn at 202-257-8416 or roddy.flynn@mail.house.gov with press inquiries.

The mission of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus is to promote lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equality. The bi-partisan, 115-member Caucus is strongly committed to achieving the full enjoyment of human rights for LGBT people in the U.S. and around the world.  The Caucus is led by the six openly LGBT members of Congress who serve as CoChairs and who authorize the release of statements and Caucus positions.
