Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus
Endorses For The People Act
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus is announcing its support for HR1, the For the People Act, led by Caucus Member John Sarbanes (MD-3). The Caucus recognizes that many LGBTQ people already face barriers to voting and this problem is even more relevant in the transgender community who face challenges in securing identification that matches their identity. The Caucus is proud to stand in solidarity with all of the members who have been working tirelessly on this effort and hopes to provide additional support as this bill becomes law.
“We are proud to endorse this bill. LGBTQ+ Americans — especially those of us who are people of color, immigrants, seniors, and living with disabilities — are among those most at risk of losing their chance to participate in our democracy right now because of Republican attacks on voting rights,” said Equality Caucus Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-1). “Voter ID especially harms transgender Americans who already face a maze of restrictions as they try to get identification cards that match their gender identity. That’s why it’s so important to our community that the Senate send H.R.1, the For the People Act, to President Biden’s desk for his signature.”
