Washington D.C. – The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus today released the following statement in remembrance of the victims of the horrific shooting on June 12, 2016 at the historic Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida, in which 49 people were murdered—most of whom were LGBTQ and Latinx.
Washington D.C. – The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus today denounced a new rule from the Trump administration that would allow anti-transgender discrimination in homeless shelters. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the proposed rule last Wednesday, which would roll back protections for transgender people experiencing homelessness by allowing taxpayer-funded shelters to turn away transgender people based on a number of factors, including the shelter provider’s religious views.
Washington D.C. – The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus released the following statement in response to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposal to dismantle and roll back the Health Care Rights Law—Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act—which protects patients from discrimination in health care. The proposed rule, which was released on Friday, would open the door for insurance companies, hospitals, doctors, and nurses to deny patients vital care and to discriminate on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation.
